Video: Buying Lumber, and Lumber Terminology
Recently, Senior Editor Robert W. Lang and I visited Frank Miller Lumber (FML) in Union City, Indiana where Bob explains how to buy lumber. He also visits with FML Outlet Store Manager Josh Brennen who demonstrates a few differences in wood selection as well as tells us all about quartersawn white oak.

Every new woodworker should see this video. Not everyone lives in a city where you have a yard that deals in woodworkers needs. It heps to have this educational reference.

Next time lets see how the logs are cut, dried, and sorted.

Very well done and explained. I have been working with wood for 25+ years and this is the frist time I have seen anyone use a small log and take it apart. Works well to show the quarter sawn oak. Thanks and keep up the good work. Dick

Those stickers on the boards at FML drive me nuts! Otherwise a fun place to go, thanks for the video....

Great video, informative and interesting. I had read how wood was quarter-sawn, but the sectioned piece of log was very helpful in visualizing the process. Wish I had such a lumber store in my area!

Good job, guys, keep up the good work.
